We just got back from a day trip to NOLA. There were lots of Georgia fans getting ready for the Sugar Bowl. I spoke to a few and their thoughts were that Georgia was going to mail it in against Baylor. They indicated that several key players are out and a couple of players are not playing because they do not want to risk injury that might hamper their pro careers. Since there is not championship at stake, the team will simply go through the motions and get beat.

Luke will pull them through.

Way to many bowl games where both teams are not excite about being there. That is part of the problem with how bowls are set up. The commercialization of cfb is a double edged sword

Commercialization or not, there are way too many bowl games. When you have to add teams with .500 records just to fill out the field, you have too many.

You know that at some point, there will be a bowl game for every team, even the winless ones.

If I am Sugar Bowl and a few of the bigger bowl, I tell them if this is how much your team cares about our bowl, we will just keep the bowl payout.
If coaches and athletic departments wanted these kids to play, they could have a much better influence on them to play.
Coaches that are not in the final 4 are just as much to blame for this BS, as they want to see what they have for the 'next year"

I can understand that players with legitimate pro potential don’t want to risk injury in a bowl game. The flip side, of course, is that it often makes for a less competitive game. I personally think bowl games were much more exciting in the “old days” when there were just a few, and it was a real accomplishment to be invited to one. Most of them were on New Year’s Day. Now they start in December and go until January. We all know some of the current bowls are meaningless and about exciting as watching grass grow. But it’s a situation that will not change any time soon.

Semper, I agree except that watching grass grow is more exciting than some of these bowls.
