My understanding is that Pegues had already decided to sign with Auburn and did not even wish to talk with Coach Kiffin. To avoid some criticism from some in the Oxford community, Pegues fabricated the story that neither Kiffin nor his staff reached out to him. Our lazy Clarion Ledger beat writer was just passing on what Pegues said without any effort to dig deeper.
Now that Pegues has publicly announced his decision, I see no need to swing the ax at him as some are doing. With enough time, Kiffin and his staff will recruit some very good talent for our football program. I have always been of the opinion that a recruit does not want to play for Ole Miss, we are better off without him. Let's go after those who do.

I don't care if it was the kid or the Clarion Dagger or both, one or both tried to give Kiffin a reputational black eye. That needs to be called out by Kiffin and everyone else. I wouldn't let that bullshit stand for a minute.

The truth needs to be known to the public and this punk needs to be exposed.

On Oxford HS product, Auburn signee JJ Pegues…
"He was at an all-star game, so we can't go see him. We tried everything possible. I talked to his coach. They tried to put him on the phone and he said that he wasn't interested and he had already made a decision. He was supposed to be up here the first morning we were here and didn't show up. You can only do what the rules allow."
- From Lane Kiffin's Press Conference, 18 December 2019

On the bright side it's good that he showed his true colors before Lane signed him. I have a feeling that this character flaw will rear its ugly head again in the future. In other words, hes all yours Auburn.

when he coms to Oxford next year he'll likely not be starting. We'll only face him in Oxford in '22 so he won't be hitting his stride to bust our chops;<)
