Clarion Ledger reporting that Pegues stated to them that "Kiffin and new coaches never even visited him, so he thought they were not interested"... I'm calling something rotten in Denmark here. In fairness, Pegues had his mind made up to Auburn months back and it likely wouldn't have mattered. But, does anyone really believe that Kiffin wouldn't have offered a valid attempt at a 4 star like Pegues?

Kiffin called his HS coach Cutcliffe to speak with him but Peagues wouldn't take the call. Kiffin explains what happened in his PC in the 8:15 mark.

I never held any respect for towel boy or anyone associated with him. The son appears to be in that category.

If you are referring to Chris Cutcliffe, he is an outstanding young coach, has a great staff and does a wonderful job with his team... I have only good things to say about him.

I listened to the presser (
Cutcliffe did not do what he was accused of doing in this thread. Kiffin said, "I talked to his coach, who tried to put him on the phone with us and he wasn't even interested. He's already made a decision."
In other words, he was recruited and decided against OM when Luke was coach, decided to go to Auburn instead and by the time Kiffin came along, it was simply too late.

I think Pegues was also suppose to show up on campus the first day or two after Kiffin arrived and he didn't show. If I'm wrong about that, correct me. I've seen that stated on other boards but I have no personal knowledge.

Kiffin said that directly in the press conference that I linked above. Sounds to me like Kiffin tried to reach him but he had already decided on Auburn and wasn't even toying with Ole Miss. That is fair enough and Pegues should have just said something to the effect of "Once I visited Auburn, I knew it was the place for me." But Pegues committed an error in judgement by lying and saying that Kiffin didn't reach out to him. I do believe that the player was lying in this case.

Exactly right Sooper. I think he made the right decision based on the way he handled it. See ya.

Lying or the CL reporter had a crooked pen?!

JJ is a great kid and will be a good player in the SEC. My sons work with JJ's father and while I'm sure he would have been pleased to have his son playing "at home", he left the decision up to JJ. The young man fairly well made up his mind before Matt Luke was let go, from what I understand. I think this is another case of the Clarion Ledger trying to smear Ole Miss by any means and making it out to be something that was untrue. WE would have been crazy not to pursue him but Kiffin's hands were already tied. Had he been in place a year or two ago, it may have been a totally different story. The young man made his decision and it wasn't Ole Miss or Alabama - move on!
