Hell, you could build an entire team out of the transfer portal and it would probably be pretty good. Look at what is available right now. This is a breakdown of 4* and higher that have entered the portal:
Offense
6 - 4* QBs
1 - 4* RB
1 - 5* WR, 10 - 4* WRs
7 - 4* OLs
Defense
7 - 4* DLs
2 - 4* LBs
7 - 4* DBs

Looks good on paper but not so much on the field. Matthews case in point came in a 4 star and couldn't make it work. Freshman were beating him out when he was 4th year. Ratings are at times misleading. Wish we could find a gem in the D inventory there however.

Well, you still have to evaluate them before recruiting them. However, I think a lot of these players are ones that, like under Luke at Ole Miss, did not get any development coaching. Bo Wallace should have sucked in college but he didn't because he received development coaching. This is Kiffin's approach at coaching too, so you know that for most players, you will see their maximum potential.
Hey, at some positions, we just need warm bodies and depth. I'd rather fill those with some experience than I would with a HS recruit that you have to spend so much time recruiting.

Which brings the question, who is QB coach? We use to have a designated coach there as I recall.

But you have to recruit again immediately so you can get trapped in that cycle just like relying too heavily on JC. We already know that next year is not going to be a great year. Better get some long-term HS players and take our lumps now unless the transfer is a home-run player.

I believe that Lebby will be OC and QBs but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could bring in a QB coach specifically. Lebby has done well developing Dillon Gabriel (3,393 yds and 27 TDs) and is probably a big reason why he got the job.

Trust me, Lane and Lebby will both coach Qb's. They will have a plan and Lane and Lebby will go ovre what Lane wants and Lebby will do a lot of the onfield drill stuff. In Team settings , Lane will be the vocal one for the most part.
Jimbo does the same at A&M with OC/QB coach Darrell Dickey.

I see another OL pulled out of the portal. Colquit? young OL who I guess just got lost in the shuffle and is now getting a better warm and fuzzy and is staying.
Have we heard anything else from the OL Mathews? he was in the portal and is the last kid I have yet to hear from. His father is Bruce Mathews who is a big time OL who played for the titans.

Mathews was a 4 start and came in with Givens who started as a freshman. Mathews never started and only got sparking time last year. He's expendable in favor of developing the younger talent. If I were on the team, I'm not sure how I'd take the pouting player that want to be on the TEAM under his terms.

It was Colquitt.
