School makes a decision to fire or otherwise lose a coach, you can just about kiss that class goodbye with the reality that the team will pay for it three and sometimes four years down the road. Ole Miss did that with its 1998 and 1999 classes. 98 was because of Wingnut first flirted with Arkansas and then again when he went to Auburn in 99. This situation is only about ten times worse now that the early signing place is law.
Don't keep up with it, but I don't see a lot buzz in this class -- hopefully Kiffin will make up some ground in February but so will about 100 other schools.

We are fine. Luke had to go. Even if we signed all that were committed, they still were 2nd to last in the division in recruiting rankings. Kiffin will get the ball rolling. I mean, we don't even have a DC or most of the staff assembled. He did an amazing job considering he's only been HC for 11 days.

The thing is, we know that if Luke would have still been the coach, the class would have been no better than what it is today, only difference would have been 25 kids with no opportunity to upgrade. OM now has the opportunity to sign 7-8 more guys in Feb all substantially better than what Luke would have signed. I would be willing to bet, 5-6 of those feb signees will be 4 star type kids. The train moves on..
EDIT, I do know that only 11=12 have actually signed, so there could be more updrades than the 5-6 I was reffering to.

The exact reason why hiring Luke was a mistake from the get-go. The only blessing is that it ended at least a year earlier than it would have if it wasn’t for the ugly loss in egg bowl

I think we signed a few guys that will turn out to be solid players. Luke was so hung up on the Mississippi Made mantra, that he really only looked regionally. Even then, he tended to lose out on so many in state kids. Kids just weren't buying what he was selling. The early signing period certainly didn't give Lane enough time to build relationships quickly and sell these kids on what his vision is of the program.
I do think he'll go after some positions of need by looking at transfers. But he's talked a great deal about developing players, so there's a healthy balance he'll have to find. He's smart enough to know that going to a bowl next season is priority for getting kids attention for next year's class.

We are headed into the recruiting dead period so now Kiffin can get off of the road and concentrate on assembling his staff. That is actually more important than the current class of athletes. But, I have a feeling between now and February, we will get some good players and probably a lot from the transfer portal. There's a buttload of talent there and I would be surprised if more coaches don't start recruiting exclusively from the portal.

I agree Rock.
