Rise of Bama and wallowing of the rest of the SEC...
Don't think for a second these two aren't intertwined. Never in my lifetime has the entire conference been in disarray save for Bama. Yes the conference has had some ups and downs but the gap between Bama and everyone else is widening. Unless we as conference members decide to work together to address the fact that bama operates by a set of rules the rest of us aren't allowed to operate by this gap will only get worse.
Ask yourself how many teams could suffer the key injuries they have suffered and not miss a beat?
We could see as many as 12 new coaches in the SEC next season. Let that sink in....

And every year we see pictures of incoming Bama players with brand new shiny vehicles, and not a single thing happens to them. They are 100% protected by the SEC as well as the NCAA. They are the most blatant cheaters (along with Auburn), yet, they continue to get away with it. Watch any game and you'll see the referees blatantly showing bias towards them. They hire folks from the NCAA and also get their guys hired by the NCAA. This web of integration between the SEC office, the NCAA office, and Alabama is why they are so protected.
Alabama wins, not because Saban is such a masterful coach, but because they have purchased the best collection of players in the country. You cannot tell me that all of those 5 star players are lining up to play special teams for Alabama. The only way it comes to an end is if the FBI probe into NCAA basketball finds something to justify extending their probe into NCAA football.

bama has the best of multiple worlds right now. First, they have more than half the state as bama fans. Fans that spend crazy amounts of money on tickets and merchandise.
This money then funds a crazy budget for their football program. A program that pays salaries for not only the top coaches to be hired, but they are even paying for people like our last OC to be a "consultant".
When you look at their team, they are all top tier athletes and are all huge. They are all fast, they are all athletic. the next issue is the rise of programs like OState and Clemson over the last few years and other programs who are recruiting well. The issue is how much talent each area has and how well you can recruit it. We have done well until the last 2 years thanks to assholes at the NCAA.
It is what it is. Bama is pretty much untouchable at the moment. Until Saban retires, there is not a lot of hope for anyone in the SEC making sustained gains. Just not a lot of sabans out there. Unless he quits now so Dabo or Myers is hired, there is not many other coaches that can come in and match his system at the bar he has set
Then you have the bama academic system. they are now a national magnet. I hear radio ads for their University. They have from what I understand, really well regarding business, science and other programs. they have built a machine at bama and they have the drive to do all they can to sustain it..

That, by any other name, is called divide and conquer....destroy the cohesion and togetherness of the alumni and you destroy the program..... A nation divided cannot stand. The ones in the lyceum that oversaw this should experience the thrill of pitchforks and torches.

The SEC office is as corrupt as the NCAA, and I do believe that one day it will come down. I might be 90 years old when it does, but sooner or later some other conference big wig is going to get enough of it and finally pay the right person in the NCAA to go check out Alabama and the SEC office. Someone out there is gunning for the SEC, just the way someone at the NCAA has been gunning for Ole Miss.
