Re: For the Kiffin now folks

Coaches are not choir boys. They are paid to win games. I wasn't wanting Kiffin but the more I think about it the more he makes sense. He is a good recruiter. He understands the SEC. He has had his failures and learned from them. He can come in and make an immediate impact. We could do a lot worse. Napier is the one that I am concerned with. I don't think he has the experience, recruiting acumen, or charisma that Ole Miss needs right now.

Re: For the Kiffin now folks

If Ole Miss makes an unproven hire equal to Matt Luke , why fire Luke to begin with? If Kiffin is hired, Ole Miss would have to hire extra people to answer the phones for season tickets. So what if Kiffin leaves in 3 years  Get another coach to take his place. Ole Miss needs a big time hire right now and if not Norvell, get Kiffin.

Re: For the Kiffin now folks

Kiffin knows what Ole Miss is capable of because his brother, Chris, coached there during the Freeze years.  Although Chris got thrown under the bus during the recruiting investigation, he was still a good coach and someone the players both respected and admired.  Kiffin does make sense from a stand point of causing fan excitement, but the school still had to understand what kind of leash they may need for Kiffin.

Re: For the Kiffin now folks

Kiffin is not the first or maybe second or third choice. Means, too we missed out on some people we wanted. Saying this, Kiffin knows how to recruit and coach. However, Ole Miss for him will only be a stepping stone to a bigger, better place. No way he will stay here. One of the reasons Saban and him butted heads was his conduct off the field, too. After hours he was known around town as Joey Freshwater so I have been told.

Re: For the Kiffin now folks

People need to drop the idea of hiring back Freeze. That isn't even in the realm of possibility.

Kiffin would make an immediate impact, bring in great recruits, and would put asses in the stands.

I don't understand the logic of not wanting someone because they are so good, they will be hired away. Ole Miss now has the athletic budget to compete in pay and Oxford is not a bad place to live. Even moreso if the new guy starts winning big. It's a far cry from the place it was when Tuberville was around. Our stadium only held 42,000 and was really outdated. Oxford itself was in the dark ages. There was no money. That's not the case anymore. We need to get out of that thinking.

Getting Freeze back is out of the question.  He burned his bridges with too many of the top donors and they do not want him back in Oxford.  Besides, the stories of buying hookers on recruiting trips will haunt him for the rest of his life and you can be assured that every coach recruiting against him would talk about the matter.  The main thing is that his integrity and honesty would be questioned.

Kiffin would make an immediate impact on the school and the football team.  If he takes another job in the future, then that means he is a good coach who is in demand.  At this point, I would not want to be against him in Arkansas.  Ole Miss does not need for the Hogs to get much better.  Who knows, maybe Kiffin would stay in Oxford for a while, but in today's coaching world the odds of a coach staying at a school for long term are low.  There are a few exceptions like Alabama and Clemson, but for the most part, coaches are looking for opportunities.
