We'll know early on how the team will perform. South Alabama isn't a team to be taken lightly (ask MSU).

South Alabama has a good team and could easily embarrass Ole Miss in the season opener.  The Jaguars will be more than just a tune up game for the Rebels.

Everyone will be out to kick OM while we're down this year. And if Luke goes less than 6-6 this year he needs to be shown the door. I hope he will do well.

One thing for sure, the O Line will play better.

I still cannot believe that Matt Luke is acting HC.

Hey guys I am going to make a suggestion and hope most of you will go along with it.  Just like many of you,  Coach Luke was not my first choice.  However, he is our head coach now and is getting my 100% support and I am not going to be second guessing him all season and discussing who should be his successor.  It was already getting ugly on the old board and I wish we would hold off until November to jump ship or call for his head on a platter.  Now feel free to go ahead and lay the blame for our current woes where it should be.

The HC job at Ole Miss is Matt Luke's to lose.  We will know by mid October if he is a good HC.  My prediction to mid-October is 3-3.  After mid-October, it might be hard to win more than 2 games.

I totally understand the premise to your point but that is a very short sighted GOB approach.  We have to look at what is best for the long term health and success of our program.  Matt Luke should be viewed as nothing more than a stop gap until we can find a quality proven head coach to which we can offer a substantial salary to come in and take the reins of this program first of December.  I've read where folks are saying Luke should be given 4-5 years to prove his mettle.  Are these folks on crack or what?  He's had 14 years to prove he's worth a shit as a coach and he isn't, hasn't been and there is nothing to suggest he will miraculously improve.  Again I like Matt Luke as a person, former player and fellow Rebel.  However he is not cut out to be the leader of our football program and anyone who thinks he is well there is just no help for that.  Certainly I wish no ill will on this team and I hope we win way more than we lose but the success of this team will have zero to do with Matt Luke unless we see improvement in the O Line which has nothing to do but improve.  Maybe Luke will be a fantastic CEO and hire great coaches to work for him.  Remember when we said the same things about David Cutcliffe when he initially hired a great staff but then followed them up with garbage hires?  Luke made reference yesterday to his "coaching tree" being Cut and Fulmer.  Folks that is no recipe for success.  Cut or Nutt 2.0.  I will pass.
There are far too many great head coaches out there who are interested in coaching at Ole Miss.  The blueprint for success has already been established no matter how much tarnish Freeze may have left on it.  Win the important games and the same talking heads who are trashing us will be lavishing on the praise.  Would love to see Matt find a great head coaching job somewhere not named Ole Miss to further his career while we go out and hire the right kind of coach to lead our program.
