To anyone in the know:
I switched my cell service from Verizon to Cricket tonight. I'll be saving around $70 monthly, gaining a line, and gaining unlimited data. I'm excited about the opportunity to receive decent coverage and save money.
The sales associate at Cricket told me that if my devices were paid off (which they are) that I wouldn't have to pay my final monthly bill to Verizon which is due in February.
Does anyone know the facts about paying final cell bills when you're not under contract?
Thanks,
Preacher

You need to determine the service dates for your Verizon bill. If they are billing you for time that you were using their service, insurance, equipment, or other items, then you would owe them for that time.
Let us know how you do with Cricket. My experience with them has not been very good due mainly to tech support and lack of coverage areas.
We have Sprint with unlimited text, data, and calls. Hulu is also included with our plan. We are paying about $100 per month and can add three more lines for $20 each.

That doesn't sound right at all. If you owe that monthly bill, then you owe it - regardless if the device is paid for already or not.
I use Google Fi. If you rarely use data, it's amazingly cheap!

You definitely don't want to not pay a Verizon bill because a Cricket representative told you not to pay it. Examine the bill and contact Verizon if you have to, and let them know what the Cricket representative told you. Can you imagine getting a ding on your credit report and having your bill sent to a collection agency just because you did not pay because a Cricket rep told you not to pay a Verizon bill?
With my past experience with both Cricket reps and their technical support, I would second guess almost anything they said. We were told by Cricket reps so many different things that were not right. I spent over 3 days working with AT&T, Apple, and Orange (a French cell phone company) trying to resolve an issue caused by Cricket.

Last year, I switched my wife and me to Total Wireless. It's the same service as Verizon and it's on Verizon's network but the bills are dead cheap compared to at&t and Verizon.

I have 4 lines with verizon. We had unlimited since they offered it again. The problem is the unlimited plan did not accept my corporate discount. so my bill went up around $40 i think. Then we had to get 2 new phones for me and my wife that added another 30-40 a month towards the bill. I was paying $367 a month.
A few months ago, I was looking at the bill and I saw that we were paying $13x2 phones for warranty. I remember adding that because of the cost of the new phones so I wanted to cover them because I am pretty hard on my phone.
Verizon also offered different tiers of unlimited now. for $5 less a month per line, you can do a step down in which you don't get HD video streaming. I am cool with that because i don't remember ever needing that and I am mostly on wifi if I do stream something. So I jumped on that plan. My bill is now about $315ish for 4 lines. It is getting pretty close to what I was paying before I went unlimited. The thing that is misleading is the cost of the phones per month. Now that they don't give you phones/discounts and you simply pay for the phone over a few years, it makes the bill look higher than it is. I am done buying a new phone ever 2 years for sure. once they are paid off, i will use it till it don't work no mo. when my kid's phones are paid for, I think my bill will drop almost $100

My bill, for two lines, after taxes is around $50/month. We are able to use the towers for TMobile, Sprint, and US Cellular, as well as any of their roaming partners. And, we can also just use Wifi for calls and texts as well if cellular coverage is poor.

I've had Verizon for 4 years. The service in rural central Alabama has been spotty at best. No service at all in Wall-Mart and large grocery buildings. When I go home to North Mississippi, my parents live near an AT&T tower and the Verizon would rarely work with it.
I previously had AT&T for years. With Cricket being owned by them and the lower price, I figured I would give the $100 for 4 lines of unlimited data a try out.
As for the Verizon bill, I wasn't under contract but I'm not sure if that makes a significant difference. I looked online and it only says "suspended" when I need it to be canceled. I couldn't find a place to actually cancel the service.
