That's the 3rd one since Freeze stepped down. This class is gonna be pretty bare after it's all said and done.

It is going to be tough to keep recruits after the Freeze and NCAA fiasco. Luke will show his recruiting abilities if he is able to keep the class together, or upgrade the class. Hopefully Luke learned something about recruiting from Freeze who learned from Orgeron. I don't think Luke learned much from Orgeron, except that you have to work hard to get results, and Matt jumped ship to go to UT when he realized that Orgeron was not allowing any slackers for recruiting.

I've stopped looking. I'm not paying attention to recruiting until January. Then we'll know if 1. If Luke stays, 2. What our penalties are. Until then it's all hash.

Stupid question: Does the early signing period of HS kids start this year? If not I'm with Kevin and I put little to no interest in what happens until at least mid way through the football season. We win recruits will warm back up to us. If we tailspin then they will continue to look elsewhere.
I'm not in any way suggesting we should take the interim tag off Luke either. I think he remains the interim coach until we can hire a big time coach as early as December. Much like what Ohio State did with their DLine coach in the transition when sweater vest was fired and Urban Meyer was hired.

I have no doubt that they will take the interim tag off regardless. If he loses, look at the adversity he had to deal with. If he wins, he's a lock. Maybe I am looking at this wrong. He was never a good position coach. Maybe he will be an alright HC. I doubt it though.

Hard to recruit when you can't even guarantee any of the coaches will be back. We all know how the GOB network is and I think most of us fully expect (are resigned to the fact) that Luke will likely be offered the permanent job which may mean stability of the coaching staff. But, most of these recruits don't know the GOB network and therefore think there is no clue who the coaches will be and won't commit to a future of uncertainty.

Our cousins in Starkville are using this on us big time on the recruiting trail. No coach at OM can look a recruit and their parents in the eye and tell them he will be at OM after this year.

That's funny. Seeing how it is a revolving door of coaches at MooU save for Mullen that no one wants I can just imagine how much weight that has coming from anyone on their staff.
Reality is they signed as bad or worse of a class when we were at our lowest.
Until the NCAA cloud goes away it won't matter what our coaches do to be honest. Kids and parents want to know what the future holds and our greatest challenge has been fear of the unknown. That fear remains as of today.

This is really what is killing us right now, and has been for awhile. The length of the NCAA investigation has hurt us in recruiting for years now. That's why I am so ready to have this over with. Other schools can say "They won't have the same coaching staff next year" or "You won't get to play in any bowl game for X years because of what is going to happen". The unknown at this point is much worse than what the known would be.
