Ridiculous pre-season games

You know this has been kicked around a good bit over the last 3 or 4 years, the NFL really needs to get rid of some of these utterly wasted week-ends.  Players often get injured and the games are meaningless.  I know some of you will say they have to see what the new talent can do.  Here is my suggestion for what it is worth(the price of 2 grandsons' Saints exhibition game tickets.) Why not use the first and second week-ends in August for jamborees like our high school teams do ?  Put the coaches on the field and make adjustments as play continues.  The third week would be a true exhibition game with the starters playing the first quarter or maybe the half and the rookies and holdovers playing the second half.  If these are truly the world's best coaches, which I maintain most of them are not, they will have evaluated the roster enough to be ready to start the real season the fourth Sunday in August.  This would give the league the possibility of the 18 game schedule they have been wanting.  All teams would still get one bye week.  Think about it if you are like me and just getting ready for another boring church service and no game to come home to.

Re: Ridiculous pre-season games

I don't watch much NFL any more....  I'll watch a few games each year and I can't tell you the last time I watched a pre-season game.....  It reminds me of a spring game in college.....  Why bother because it just doesn't matter who wins and to me football is all about who wins.... I wouldn't walk across the street to watch a bunch of guys playing for the 'fun' of it if they didn't keep score.....  But it sells tickets and THAT is why they're played....  It gives them an excuse to get in a few more 'gates' without having an official grueling schedule.....which is another reason to dislike the NFL....which IMO is fast going the way of the NBA......and college football is not far behind either.....

Then there is this (link):  And they wonder why the sport is on the decline!

Re: Ridiculous pre-season games

I watch zero preseason games and only a select few regular season games, principally the Giants and the Ain'ts. Rarely ever do I see the whole game through.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Re: Ridiculous pre-season games

pre season is almost exclusively a chance to shake the rust off and to get the new the new guys a chance to show their stuff.  the first stingers only see action enough to get warmed up but the rest of the guys get good reps. I don't care so much for the NFL as I do about the players I follow.   That and I am ready for football so anything on TV i can watch is scratching that itch
