In an unsurprising turn of events Ole Miss will be sticking with what brought it to the dance this weekend. Dylan DeLucia was announced as the starter against Auburn on Saturday in the opening round of the College World Series.
The rotation has been set, at least the front two starters, for a couple months now with DeLucia becoming the Friday guy and Hunter Elliott the Saturday starter. No starter was announced for the Monday game, but that will be determined over the weekend.
It is going to be Hunter Elliott in Game 2 for anyone who was concerned.
Saturday’s game will be the first time DeLucia has faced Auburn as a starter, but not the first time he has encountered the Tigers lineup.
In the SEC opener for both teams on March 17, DeLucia pitched 3.1 innings of relief after John Gaddis worked three innings as the opener. DeLucia picked up the win in the 13-6 Ole Miss victory, allowing two runs – both earned – off six hits while striking out five and issuing one walk.
Postseason baseball has been good to DeLucia who is peaking at the right time and proving he is the ace of the Ole Miss staff.
In his two starts against Arizona and Southern Mississippi, DeLucia has pitched a combined 11.2 innings and given up four runs off nine hits. All of those runs came against the Wildcats as DeLucia, and Elliott, pitched shutouts against Southern Mississippi in the Hattiesburg Super Regional.
Ole Miss and Auburn will play at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will air on ESPN2.
