Sam Williams selected captain of National Team in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Former Ole Miss edge rusher Sam Williams has had quite a week during practices for Saturday's NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Williams has shown enough to perhaps push his draft stock into over drive. On Friday, he was named his team's captain for Saturday's game.
Williams has spent the week doing what Ole Miss fans already knew he could do, beating offensive linemen with his incredible quickness.
"Sam, obviously, it's been awesome," said Ole Miss co-defensive coordinator Partridge prior to the Rebels' appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. "It's hard not to love him. You know, he's really, really bought into the football team over the last two years and got away from himself and really just put in the work ethic on and off the field to really change his life. It's been pretty special. He had a son along the way, which I think puts a lot of things into perspective. He's really the guy that you're going to root for hard going forward, obviously, in this game and moving forward."
A feared pass rusher, Williams set a school record with12.5 sacks. Those 12.5 quarterback take downs rank fourth in the country. He stands at 22.5 career sacks as a Rebel, good enough for third all-time in the modern-day Ole Miss record book. His 32.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage come in seventh in the annals of Ole Miss history. He was named a first-team All-SEC selection and second-team All-American following his senior season at Ole Miss.
Williams will be lined up for the National Team on Saturday.
Other Rebels playing for the American Team in the game from Ole Miss include wide receiver Braylon Sanders, center Orlando Umana and defensive lineman Tarqious Tisdale.
The 2022 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. CT Saturday from Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif. The game will be televised live on the NFL Network.
