Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

Lots of rumors swirling that TX and OU are interested in joining the SEC and there’s mutual interest — 11 of 14 teams need to approve from what I understand —- I could see TAMU and Mizzou saying no and Ole Miss, MSU and Arkansas should all absolutely vote against it IMO

Edit: the more I think about it, maybe those schools shouldn’t vote no — no it won’t make the league any easier but, it would bring more money to each school..

Rockaggie, you hearing anything?

Re: Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

Seems that rumor is picking up steam. The biggest question I would have is financially, would it make sense financially? Since the SEC splits the revenues among the schools, would Texas and Oklahoma bring in enough money to cover those two additional pieces of pie that have to be shared? I think the contract for the SEC Network was renewed not too long ago. I do know that the Longhorn Network would end up being dissolved - so maybe that additional monies would go towards a new contract for the SEC Network? I dunno...this would have to make sense financially for the conference for this to happen.

And going with the assumption that this does happen, we would need to ditch divisions entirely, and go with a Pod layout for the conference.

Re: Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

When are Stanford, USC and Oregon going to join the SEC?

I think it would be kind of funny to see the reactions if they did the 4 team pods and put Ole Miss and MSU in different ones.

Re: Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

I know that A&M, Mizzu and Ark are all no votes.  Supposedly FL has always told A&M they would never vote for texas to get in the SEC.
If I am OM, MIss St, S. Carolina, I vote no.

they have to get 11 yes votes. Of course money can change anyones vote, but I just do not see it is worth it on a competitive level for the schools like OM, MSU , USC.

VAndy, they dont care about competitiveness, they will vote yes just for the money

Re: Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

When the conference expands, I believe it triggers an auto-renegotiation. The SEC would pretty much corner 75% of the focus of college football and the Big12 would fare little better than the Big East. There would still be big name schools with nowhere to go, but the Big 12 would lose tons of money by losing its two biggest names.

Honestly, I am surprised that OU is wanting to go without OSU. That's always been a hang-up for them moving in the past. I'm sure the PAC-12 will make a play for some of them like TCU, OSU, Texas Tech, etc.

The truth is that we all knew the current Big 12 with only 10 teams left was just a temporary conference.

I think it would balance the conference out more. I like it.

Re: Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

Texas and Oklahoma are to announce to the Big 12 their intentions to leave on Monday and then they can "apply" for admission to the SEC. Supposedly, the SEC has been in talks for a few months about the additions but kept things very "mum."

The timely  "leaked" story from the Houston Chronicle precisely when old "what's his name?" from A&M took the podium, the additional remarks to the press, the so called "denials" from Texas & Oklahoma, the denials or "no comment" from the SEC offices, etc. Just too much of a coincidence, as par for the course.

All this should get real interesting in the next few weeks, beginning on Monday.

Re: Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC?

Don't get me wrong . . . . I like the idea of OU and Texas joining the SEC. It should be beneficial to everyone. I just believe things are going to get "crazy" before it all over.
