Re: My top pick

Not no but absolutely hell no!
Agreed he has it all including the stains of NCAA trouble that was uncovered with his successor Flood written all over him along with now coaching at one of the dirtiest and NCAA probation ridden programs in the country at Ohio State.
Let's be honest he won at Rutgers when they were in the BigEast.  No one in their right mind would think he could win at Rutgers now that they are in the big10.
He was a disaster hire at Tampa Bay.  Was out of coaching for two years following that.  One year is acceptable.  Two becomes questionable as in why hasn't someone hired you already?
I think he's a good coordinator but even that is hard to say when you have the talent that Ohio State has.

Re: My top pick

I don't have a #1 pick....  What I do have is an increasing unease.  With all the other coaching vacancies this year we're going to end up with another ho hum hire..... I just can't shake that feeling.....  Hope I'm wrong....

Re: My top pick

Johnny I totally understand your lack of confidence.  Lord knows you have seen more than most of us in regards to terrible WAOM designs and moments.
Color me glass half full, drunk or hopelessly optimistic but I believe we get this one right.
That said it won't matter who we hire if we take the collective attitude of the GOB's who are already threatening to take their ball and go home.  To be honest Ole Miss would be better off if they did and never came back.  Free from the chains that bind us would be a glorious day.

And that, in a nutshell, defines the real issue.  Up until now we haven't been able to shed ourselves of the political influences of that group.... And don't look for them to "take their ball and go home".  They won't give up their favored status without a fight....They're very comfortable and don't want anything to upset their little party....  It will have to be taken away from them.... Therein lies the task ahead and I hope we're up to the task.

Re: My top pick

I like him a lot more than most other names being floated around.  He is only 51 so he should still have some fire in his belly.

I still think we should go after Jim Tressel.

Re: My top pick

If I had to guess, I'm thinking it'll be Frank Wilson, Mike Norvell, or Scott Frost. I would honestly reach out to Lane Kiffin and Mike Bobo as well. But I think it'll come down to someone among those first three. The NCAA sanctions will be a hard sell for a HC to willingly come into.

Re: My top pick

There are better choices than Schiano.  He has a losing record as a coach.  His record is as follows:
Rutgers - 68-67 (Overall) and 28-48 (Conference)
Tampa Bay - 11-21-0 at .344

Most likely the HC will be Frank Wilson.  He already has a connection to Ole Miss, Ole Miss would be an upward move for him, and there are people who believe that he is a great coach.  I have seen Ole Miss screw up multiple Football HC hires, so I do not have faith in a home run hire.  Hopefully I am wrong and will be eating crow.

Re: My top pick

Where has tresses been the last 5 or so years?  He has baggage we don't need plus, he seems to be on the washed up side

No thanks to kiffin.  Other than recruiting, He has been mediocre (at best)  everywhere he has been

Frank Wilson will probably be our guy.  It wouldnt be the worst hire in the world but Id be willing to bet he would turn out closer to a croom or ed O than anything else.  Maybe he would bridge the gap between sanctions and our starting over.

Scott frost is interesting.  Maybe he's just a flash in the pan but I would much rather take a chance on someone in this "up and coming" category than Kiffin, etc
