About just how embarrassing it is to be an Ole Miss fan right now ?
With all the thousands & thousands of Arkansas fans in attendance inside VHS yesterday, it got me to thinking....
- The OM Students could care less about coming to football games now. The move to the new NEZ ( in the sun ) coupled with losing, has made for an ugly empty NEZ on a regular basis.
- Playing "Kiss Cam" on the Jumbotron during an intense SEC game is just embarrassing. Please make it stop.
- The Pride of The South ( OM band ) is just terrible. They are awful. Hear me out, It's not the kids fault, but the music they play is terrible. They have no identity anymore since all the songs I grew up watching them play are gone. Sweet Caroline at a football game ? Mmmmmmk that will fire up the crowd. My least favorite is the "Da Da Da Da...We Are Ole Miss" song, OMG that is embarrassing.
- Do they have to still put "Yell OOOOoooooo" on the Jumbotron when the OM Defense is on the field ? Do we not have that one down yet ? It was bad when Kentrell Lockett did the demonstration video, & now we still have to teach our fans how to make noise when we are on defense ?
- So, we are going with The Landshark as our mascot. Ok, ok, ok.....what about our defense ? Imagine trying to explain to someone from out of town why we are called "Rebels" for now, but play Jimmy Buffet Landshark music in the Jumbotron as a sing along....during the game.
- Outside the stadium - Green Fences everywhere !!!!!!!!!! Good grief, Lord have mercy at all the Green Fences blocking you from walking around campus. My question is, are we going to finish building some shit, or just leave the green fences up for the next 3 -4 years??!!! The science building has not even been started yet, & it was the same way last year.
- So, Is there just ONE Men's restroom on the entire West Side of the stadium ? Or is there two ?
Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Ole Miss Football has LIGHT YEARS to go still. It's sucks to be a Rebel right now. Somebody please save this dying program from its death.

Well....they gutted our identity like a fish (get the irony there...it's just too good to pass up.) They are positioning us to drop Rebels and moving in Charlie The Tuna next season to solidify the new identity..... Old Charlie is the perfect mascot. He will become the face of the University of Mississippi (formerly known as Ole Miss!)
Now they're struggling to find something to fill the void....no more FDWL which was the best signature song in college football IMO. How do you replace that with Jimmy Freakin Buffet?
Great job Lyceum.....you managed to divide the fan base about as effectively as east is from west....I dassn't say north from south......if you know what I mean.....
Oh...let me add to your list..... Commercials at a college football game just plain sucks and yeah, I know......$$$$$. But talk about killing the 'mood'....and excitement of a ball game.....having to watch some ambulance chaser hawing his shakedown machine is more than I can handle.

Ole Miss was left behind many years ago and allowed high caliber schools to grow bigger and stronger, in addition to allowing smaller city based schools to surpass Ole Miss. At one time Ole Miss was a formidable foe and a respected University. At some point in time, too many politically correct people attempted to neutralize the school and make it politically correct. Instead of focusing on growth and success in athletics, there was a controlling group who wanted Ole Miss to have the image of the Harvard of the South. Things are not looking good for Ole Miss. The school has a major identity crisis and the leadership in the Lyceum is not doing much to move the school in a positive direction. Ole Miss had its chance to keep up with the big boys, but they let this chance go down the drain. Fans can only hope that someone has learned their lessons from the past and will make Ole Miss a stronger and more positive University.

I agree that the students need to be back in the SEZ. The allotment for them increased with the move to the NEZ - even last year during close games they'd leave really.
The entire Landshark thing was stupid as hell. And yes, it's absolutely embarrassing. Add to that, the administration did this during the season, again!!
There is a culture problem that starts with the administration. They don't have any plans in place and just go with whatever direction the wind blows. They have zero idea about the pulse of the entire fanbase. When they got rid of Colonel Rebel, they had an opportunity to come up with a mascot that tied in to a Rebel. They could have went with an image from the Revolution - that would have been a rebel. But they wanted the damn black bear and forced it down our throats. The students showed their interest by voting for a damn Star Wars character.
The next hire better be a home run hire. This is such a critical point in our programs history - hoping Vitter STFU sand let Bjork be in charge. Speaking of Vitter, his ass needs to be gone!!!!

Adding to my previous post, most fans are too busy about their image and being scene. They want to socialize, have the best spot in The Grove, and have drinks flowing like a flooded stream. The administration is almost just as bad. The people in control want everyone to know who they are and do not want to relinquish control. Generally Ole Miss fans do not make too much noise for very long. When they do, it is rare and does not happen totally and continuously at all games. In the past I have been told and also seen other fans told to sit down when they were up cheering and trying to be a part of the fan base that the players like to see and hear. Ole Miss has an elitist country club attitude that is worse than the elitist attitude of most Vanderbilt fans. Until things attitudes drastically change, Ole Miss will always be a mediocre team that always wins the party!

Ole Miss is already bending over to the NCAA and waiting until after the conference championships to do anything about making a hire. By that time, most schools wanting a new coach will have already been making deals to get the coach they want. Ole Miss will get the leftovers, or the coach that the NCAA says we must hire.

The mascot deal was an easy fix to me, but maybe it's just me. They could have let the bear die, make him disappear without telling anyone, & bring the Red & Yellow Solo cups on over from Swayze & be done with it if we absolutely have to have a mascot.
The bear & now Landshark is just making a messed up situation worse. Like Meridian said, Both decisions were made during the season.
Idiotic.

A while back I was up on my feet yelling my head off.... Someone pushed me from behind and I turned around to see this old woman leering at me and scolding me for standing in her way. I asked, "did you just try to push me over?" Her dipshit son jumped in and accused me of attacking his momma. I took one look at him and told him, "I asked your momma a question but if you want some of me come ahead on and get your face busted.".. He retreated like a crawfish and I turned back to his momma and said as politely as I could,..."Ma'am I'm going to leave now and find another seat so you can watch the game."..... I left and never went back to that seat again. I'd rather stand at a portal than sit like a toad on a mushroom.....
That's the mentality we're dealing with....people who want to show up but not participate or lift a finger to fire up the stadium.....that is nothing more than WAOM attitude on display and that is why we can never get over the hump.

I would like to add one to the list... The Grove. It's become a complete shithole. Nothing but thousands of incoherent drunks and litter everywhere. Now, there was always drinking but lately it's more pathetic than it is beat. I hate it and avoid it at all costs.

Me too Sooper.... I used to go over and take in the band/pep rally but when they quit playing FDWL I decided to boycott....not that anyone notices but it's just NOT the same excitement that it was.....not even close. I haven't set foot in the grove since..... Wall to wall tents so that you can barely navigate through.... I used to park in there in my car and tailgate out of the trunk.....back in those days it wasn't that crowded and you could walk without tripping over a drunk....
Then they closed the grove to traffic....I retreated to parking on campus....Now you have to retreat to an off campus location to park and catch a damn shuttle....it's just NOT fun any more. I used to thoroughly enjoy parking on campus as it gave me a chance to walk by all my old class buildings.....now it's a shuttle ride up to the stadium in time for the game and afterwards who wants to walk across campus with everyone racing to get to their shuttle or car to get the hell out of Dodge.....
All that said.....they've destroyed a once treasured experience....It just doesn't have the same 'feel'......It's more like going to Memphis State for a game now.....the quaint atmosphere is no longer....
