Ole Miss lost this weekend's series 1-2 to UCF. Coming into the weekend Ole Miss was rated by many services at #1 in the country. This was short lived as Ole Miss lost 2/3 games to UCF.
It always seems if the Rebels get rated high, then they fall. Being #1 is a tough position because it is hard to maintain and all your opponents have you in their sights. Rebel fans will see if the Ole Miss baseball team can overcome these losses.
One thing for sure is that SEC play will be tough and critical. Prior to this weekend, there were 9 SEC teams in the Top 25.
1. Ole Miss
2. Arkansas
3. Vanderbilt
5. Mississippi State
7. Florida
11. LSU
17. South Carolina
18. Tennessee
21. Auburn
If anyone watched the Ole Miss vs. UCF games this weekend, your perspective would be greatly appreciated.

I told my son during the first game of the Texas classic that this was going to be a long season. There were several reasons for this observation. 1. The intensity of last year is not there. Last year the team refused to lose. This year it seems that they don't know how to win. 2. The pitchers, though still good, have lost their killer instinct that was present last year. 3. Perhaps the most important is the fact that too many are too nonchalant at the plate. I believe that a lot of this comes from believing the hype that has been heaped upon them and all they have to do is show up. I hope that this UCF series has opened their eyes and they regain their attitude to refuse to lose and begin to show the real talents that they possess. Otherwise, it is going to be a long season of ups and downs.

Bianco said postgame that he and the staff are still trying to figure out the batting rotation. He also said the players chased too many bad pitches and missed walks that could have been very helpful. Hayden Dunhurst said the same thing.

We looked really bad at the plate. Guys aren't trying to drive the ball - they are trying to pull everything and go yard. We saw this when UFC would shift their infield - instead of hitting to the opposite direction, the guys still insisted on pulling the ball still.
I know with a younger team, you always see problems at the plate. But, out of highschool, these guys should have a higher baseball IQ at the plate.
Having said that, I'd much rather us lose a series early in the season and get hot later in the season. But, this team is gonna have to get over themselves and get back to wanting to win. We got very lucky to win one game against UCF (thanks to an error). If they play like this throughout the year, then we won't even make it to a regional.
