Ole Miss Football: Top 3 remaining targets in 2021 recruiting class
Ole Miss football still has some big names left on the board for Lane Kiffin to go out and win over. Who tops the Rebels’ 2021 recruiting board?
Lane Kiffin’s first year in Oxford was an eventful one. He started just 1-4 with two hard-fought losses against top-five opponents Florida and Alabama before winning three straight and putting themselves in bowl contention.
The Rebels had their matchup with Texas A&M cancelled before facing LSU and nearly pulling off a big win there. They then took down No. 11 Indiana in an exciting Outback Bowl to finish the season 5-5 which can only be considered a success, especially with COVID-19 impacting the amount of time Kiffin got to spend with his new team in the offseason.
Now he’s trying to improve the talent in the program via recruiting. He currently has the No. 19 recruiting class in the country with 24 guys signed, but there are still a few left on his big board.
Who are the top remaining targets for the Rebels in the 2021 class?
3. QUENTON BARNES
WR Antioch (Tenn.)

One of the top uncommitted receivers in the 2021 class is four-star Quenton Barnes who looks to be wide open heading into National Signing Day. In fact, there are zero crystal balls for him on 247Sports which usually means a recruit is playing the process close to the vest.
Ole Miss is right there in the running for the Tennessee-native along with Georgia and LSU and he would be the second-highest ranked receiver commit in the Rebels’ 2021 class.
Looking at the future depth chart for the Rebels, after the 2021 season, they will be in dire need of receiver depth and Barnes has to like that. Young, talented prospects love the idea of playing early on and potentially avoiding a redshirt and he’d get that if he came to Ole Miss.
The 6-2, 175-pounder from Tennessee is ranked the No. 283 recruit in the nation and 44th-best receiver in his class, according to 247Sports. It’s going to be an all-SEC battle for him.
2. TREVIN WALLACE
ILB Jesup (Ga.)

This is a recruitment that seems like it’s slipping away from Ole Miss, but the fact that Auburn had a coaching change just a month ago could help the Rebels out here.
Trevin Wallace is one of the best linebackers in the country for 2021 and right now he’s being courted by Auburn, Kentucky and Ole Miss. Sensing a theme on this list? Most of the remaining targets for Ole Miss are looking to stay in the SEC so if the Rebels don’t land them, they’ll be haunted by them for years to come.
After losing guys like Lakia Henry and Sam Williams, adding Wallace to the linebacking unit would be a huge development for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels.
Wallace is a solid 6-2, 209-pound inside linebacker from Georgia who’s ranked the No. 74 prospect in the country in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports. The recruiting site also has him listed as the sixth-best inside linebacker in the class and Georgia’s eighth-best prospect.
Auburn may be the current favorite to land him, but don’t count out Ole Miss just yet.
1. TYWONE MALONE
DE Oradell (N.J.)

If Ole Miss is only able to add one more signee to its 2021 class, you better believe it’ll be four-star defensive end Tywone Malone from New Jersey. He’s undoubtedly the top prospect left on the Rebels’ board and he seems to be favoring Lane Kiffin’s program over the likes of Texas A&M, Florida State, Tennessee and even the home-state Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.
Malone is one of the best uncommitted players in the entire country and he’s expected to make his decision on National Signing Day and that’s where Ole Miss comes into play.
Expect Kiffin to make a serious push for Malone and keep in contact with him until he officially signs because just because the Rebels look like the favorites to land him doesn’t mean it’s a done deal just yet.
The No. 61 recruit in the country would have an immediate impact for the Rebels and it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see him crack the starting lineup right away. New Jersey’s top 2021 prospect has the size at 6-foot-3.5 and 300 pounds and he surely has the talent.
Malone is easily the top remaining prospect.
