As a HC you have to make a statement that you are doing something to get the defense fixed. Cant just let the media keep asking the question, "what are you doing to fix the defense" they dont let you just say, we are recruiting better players. Hate it for Deke, he is a miss guy, but it happens

Thank goodness Ole Miss has a coach that is pro-active!!! In the past regimes of Fluke, Sleeze, and Mutt, anyone on the staff would have been allowed to stay employed because the HC did not have the balls to fire anyone unless they were under tremendous pressure.

Sources have confirmed to the Ole Miss Spirit that head coach Lane Kiffin has fired defensive line coach Deke Adams. We are told the dismissal took place Monday just two days after the Rebels finished their regular season with a 53-48 loss at LSU and a day after Ole Miss learned it would face Indiana in the Outback Bowl.
In a season in which the Rebels' offense was dynamic, the defense was anything but. Ole Miss finished dead last in the nation in pass defense (324.4 yards per game), some of which could certainly be contributed to a lack of pass rush. Ole Miss also finished 104th in the country in rush defense, allowing 211.22 yards per game on the ground. The Rebels ranked 121st in scoring defense, giving up an average of 40.3 points per contest.
Adams had just completed his first year on the Ole Miss staff. He was hired to coach the defensive line by Kiffin on Jan. 24, 2020.
Prior to arriving at Ole Miss, Adams served as the defensive line coach under Joe Moorhead at Mississippi State for the 2019 season.
There has been no word yet on who will coach the defensive line in the Rebels' upcoming bowl game set for Jan. 2, in Tampa, Fla.
