DT Taleeq Robbins commits to Ole Miss

DT Taleeq Robbins commits to Ole Miss

Patience turned out to be the right approach for Taleeq Robbins and Ole Miss.

The Philadelphia Imhotep defensive tackle nearly committed a month ago, but he wanted to learn more about the Rebels, Georgia and Texas A&M rather than force a decision before he was ready.

All the extended time did was make the 6-foot-3, 300-pound Robbins realize even more Ole Miss was the right spot, so rather than wait until signing day to make a decision, he announced his school of choice Saturday.

"I'm going to Ole Miss," Robbins told 247Sports. "The reason I chose there was because I wanted to go somewhere I was needed, and I wanted to go somewhere they needed someone to come in and contribute right away to be a factor on the field.

"Also, the coaching staff as been showing love since Day One. You can tell the atmosphere down there is different, for sure, and they have a great recruiting class."

Robbins' commitment continues a scorching pace for the Rebels lately on the recruiting trail. Ole Miss rose from No. 73 to No. 18 in the team rankings in less than two weeks.

"In the past couple of weeks there have been a lot of dudes committing," Robbins said. "It's going to be something special. When I was watching on twitter, I saw a couple of people flip within a couple of days. It was crazy. They went from 70 to Top 20 in a couple of days. It's crazy."

A key part of the commitment was the work done by Ole Miss assistant coach Chris Partridge. The one-time New Jersey high school football coach has relationships in Philadelphia and he landed Top247 safety Tysheem Johnson of Philadelphia Neumann Goretti a few months ago.

And Robbins already shared the news with Johnson.

"He was like, 'Yeah, we lit,' " Robbins said.

Robbins, who will sign Wednesday but not enroll until the summer, also has strong relationships with many of Ole Miss' assistant coaches, including defensive line coach Deke Adams.

"He's been keeping it real and been telling me it definitely is not going to be easy when I get in there," Robbins said. "I am going to have to compete and work. Seeing the guys he developed, it is definitely going to be good to be coached by him."

Playing for coach Lane Kiffin is also an exciting opportunity for Robbins.

"Coach Kiffin is a great coach," he said. "You can see how the program changed within a couple of months since he's been there. The culture is changing there. He has a great sense of humor. You see his twitter and he's always interacting with people, so it's definitely good to be coached by someone with a great personality like that."

Re: DT Taleeq Robbins commits to Ole Miss

Great pickup, I know A&M wanted him bad.  Now, we did pick up a 5 star DL today, but Robbins is a big get. If?when OM picks up Malone, wow.  Huge haul on the DL.     People will stop questioning Durkin/Patridge in the upcoming seasons as they are starting to get some jimmys and joes there to stop people.

Robbins a 3 star is a joke, when your final 3 is A&M, Georgia and OM, that is 4 star all day.

Malone is a no doubt 5 star also, his composite is 97, down to OM, A&M with legit offers from bama, usc, uf, LSU

With Gordon and Iton coming in as JUCO's on the DL( them both being 3 stars are a joke, just look at the offer sheets)
Then Robbins and Malone coming in as HS guys, that front get good fast.  Add Smith and Hawkins on that front 4.

On the back end, Johnson, Jackson and Sabbatini and that is a stacked SS and FS
Williams, Washington and maybe Breedlove at corners adding Prince back.. SOLID
Just need linebackers

Add that Reese will have 2 years as a transfer as this year didnt count and Jake Springer the Navy transfer. Reese has the size 6'2"220 to play some OLB.

Very good summary of the work this staff is doing in fixing our D issues. I'm pretty excited about these kids coming into the program. The Juco kids and transfers will be an immediate improvement. I realize that Juco kids tend to need time to adjust, but they are certainly an upgrade over what we have.
