Ole Miss QB Kade Renfro enters transfer portal
Ole Miss true freshman quarterback Kade Renfro entered the transfer portal Wednesday afternoon, 247Sports has learned. Renfro did not appear in a game this season, sitting behind starter Matt Corral, John Rhys Plumlee and Kinkead Dent.
Ranked as the No. 1,079 overall player in the 2020 class, Renfro committed to Ole Miss over an offer from Florida State. The Stephenville, Texas native threw for 2,372 yards and 17 touchdowns against 11 interceptions during his senior year of high school.
Here's 247Sports' evaluation of Renfro coming out of high school via national analyst Gabe Brooks.
"Good height and frame potential for a QB. Flashes plenty of natural arm talent, both in velocity and downfield strength. Encouraging ability to drive ball to perimeter and down the seams. Mobile enough to keep defenses honest on occasional designed runs or when extending plays. Should possess high developmental growth potential moving forward. Ball can get out quicker. Release point varies unintentionally at times. Can improve consistency and effectiveness throwing off platform. Filling out frame will help in maximizing arm strength. Raw but tools-heavy QB with a lot of potential moving forward. Definite Group of 5-caliber QB prospect with Power 5 ceiling."
The NCAA introduced the transfer portal on Oct. 15, 2018, providing athletes a path to explore their options. Players do not need to ask permission from their coaching staff in order to transfer. They merely need to request that compliance enter their name. Usually, it takes 24-48 hours for a player to appear following their request. Schools are free to contact a player without restriction once their name appears in the portal.
The first portal cycle saw 1,942 FBS players enter in the initial calendar year of its existence, per a source.
