The 247Sports Crystal Ball is telling a tale that is music to the ears of Ole Miss fans.
As of Saturday afternoon, the popular predictor mechanism for college football recruits is leaning heavily toward the Rebels to earn the signature of four-star defensive end Demon Clowney. The 247Sports Crystal ball for Clowney has eight entries at this writing with seven of those votes predicting Clowney to Ole Miss.
Among those recruiting experts with forecast for Clowney ending up in Oxford are 247Sports national recruiting director Steve Wiltfong, national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn, Michigan insider Steve Lorenz, NC State insider Michael Clark, Maryland contributor Michael Clark and Ole Miss insiders David Johnson and Yancy Porter. The last seven picks on Clowney's profile have been aimed toward Ole Miss.
Wiltfong writes: The Top247 defensive end takes an official visit to Ole Miss the weekend of Jan. 17 and wants to enroll early at the school of his choosing. The Rebels have a plan in place to make that happen and a good trip should seal the deal with Clowney. If not, look at a program like Louisville who also has an early enrollment strategy for the pass rusher.
The 6-4, 225-pound Clowney is rated as the nation's No. 8 weak-side defensive end by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite index. He is the No. 7 player regardless of position in the state of Maryland's 2020 class.
The defensive line is an obvious and critical position of need for Ole Miss heading into the Feb. 5, national signing day

247Sports Composite0.9400247Sports evaluation of Demon Clowney: Ideal frame for 3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 defensive end. Can easily carry 245 pounds. Cousin of Jadeveon Clowney. Athletic, long and quick in short spaces. Fires off quickly at snap. Bends well to win leverage. Covers large spaces in a few steps. Flexibility to dip shoulder and explode around edge. Disruptive in the backfield. Hand speed is excellent. Chases plays down from behind. Moves well laterally. Needs more upper body strength. Has to work on consistency with pass rushing technique. Must work on ability to drop into coverage. Could be an impact player. Should develop into a mid-round NFL draft selection (per Brian Dohn).
Ole Miss received 12 national letters of intent during the December early signing period. The Rebels' 2020 class currently ranks 11th in the SEC and 45th in the nation per the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.
The current dead period for college football recruiting ends on Jan. 17. Ole Miss is expected to host official visitors for the final three weekends in January leading up to the Feb. 5, national signing day.
The Spirit Says...We're in lock-step with the national perspective that Demon Clowney is going to cast his lot with the Ole Miss rebels in a few weeks. The confidence level on that seems to grow daily. However, we do believe Louisville is a factor and we most certainly believe others could become more involved as things play out.
