Lane Kiffin hires new defense/special teams assistant for Ole Miss staff
Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss staff continues to take shape.
Houston special teams coordinator and nickels coach Blake Gideon is leaving the Cougars to become a defensive assistant and special teams coordinator at Ole Miss. Gideon himself has confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
Gideon played at Texas from 2008-11 and got into coaching in 2014 as a defensive quality control staffer at Florida. He then joined the Auburn staff in 2015 as a graduate assistant. Gideon’s other stops have been Western Carolina (defensive backs/defensive passing game coordinator, 2016-17) and Georgia State (cornerbacks, 2018) before joining the Houston staff in 2019.
So far, the Rebels have announced two on-field assistants – offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby and assistant coach Kevin Smith – along with head strength and conditioning coach Wilson Love.

Grateful for what the City and University of Houston has done for my family and me. To my guys that continued to fight, you’re the reason. If you know, you know. #HottyToddy
