I'm sure that Freeze was just in town and probably reached out to Lane. Lane would certainly want to talk to the guy that had the most recent success at the same school.

Hugh was in the are recruiting. he was at ECCC, EMCC and other JUCO's earlier in the day. He and Lane have been friends a long time. Ate dinner on many occasions.

The bottom line is who cares. recruits dont care. I have been around recruits for the better part of my life. They worry about how I get to play, can you get me to the league, etc. This is white noise to them. Fans and media all worry about the "optics" memes, etc. Players know 2 things, Lane Kiffin gets players to the league and wins. Hugh Freeze got players to the league and won.
Fans, alumni and boosters worry about bowl games , national titles, etc, 1000 times more than the players do. Yes, they all want to win, but if you put it on their list of goals when they are picking a school, it is way down the list. How unrealistic is may be, but going to the NFL is #1 on that list, even kids signing with D-2-D3 . Getting a degree and taking care off momma/myself/etc is #2. Just getting somewhere where there is a nice place to live, light bill is paid, plenty of food to eat is #3. WINNING is maybe #4 on the high majority on these recruits goal list.
Some may argue, well you need to win to get to the NFL, not even close. Look at the NFL rosters.
Just look each year when it gets to bowl time, how many guys skip the bowl to get ready for the NFL.
It;s just fact.
If I am a OM fan/alumni I have fun with that picture of any of the "you will be back on probation" talk.
I say,at least we found a way to beat Bama and the SEC office some how. Stuff like that. Miss St will always be losers.
Their best HC in HISTORY still had a losing SEC record 33-39, still had a losing record against power 5 schools in his tenure.
Same goes for their 2nd winningest HC of all time Sherrill( which I have a soft spot for since I am a A&M fan) 43-59 SEC record and the same on his overall record against Power 5 schools.

Thanks Rock for pointing those things out. I trust your knowledge and input a whole lot more than all those folks whining, especially all the Moo U fans that say they don't care about Ole Miss but they lurk around every tid bit or ANY news coming out of Oxford. It must really hurt to be the ugly step-sister.
