Matt Luke was fired last night, here’s what we know about the situation so far:

• Mike Norvell is the early lead candidate for the job.
• Keith Carter plans to put a coach in place quickly, wanting to finalize one in the next week and a half.
• Many players and recruits are understandably very frustrated with Luke being outed. So far the only person to leave is 3⭐️ RB Kyjuan Herndon who just announced decomittment. It will be important for Carter to get a coach quickly so he can talk to the players. Keep in mind players who have already entered the transfer portal this season could potentially still return if works out.
• Memphis is readying themselves for a battle with Ole Miss for Norvell. Memphis can reportedly increase his contract to around 3.5M a year, something Ole Miss can easily beat.
• FSU, Arkansas and Mizzou are all reportedly interested in Norvell as well. Something of a bidding war could break out between Ole Miss and some of those schools. The Rebels appear ready to offer Norvell a top-dollar contract. Ole Miss would be in a very good spot to edge out the other schools due to location and young talent on the roster already. Lane Kiffin is another coach being considered by all of those schools, though it’s looking like Arkansas is going to land him.
• Billy Napier, Will Healy, Bryan Harsin, Luke Fickell, Bill Clark and Dave Aranda are among some of the other options I’d assume Ole Miss at least gives a look.
• The remainder of the staff are technically still working for the university and are on the road recruiting(I know that makes no sense but it’s the situation for now). New head coaches tend to keep a few assistants so the players have some familiar faces on the staff.
• The initial report of Matt Luke being at De’Rickey Wright’s house at the time of the news breaking wasn’t completely true. He was there earlier in the day and was in Oxford when the news broke.
