Message from a friend said that according to a retired college football ref, the penalty on Moore for unsportsman like conduct should have been assessed on the ensuing kickoff, NOT on the extra point try. Can anyone confirm this? If true, why didn't any of our coaches know this and challenge the refs?

I thought that scenario too but had a penalty been call during the rich itself then it would seem during the ensuing kickoff but I rationalized, right or wrong, that the cll was right. One of you rule book guys might elaborate. 15 yds for unsportsmalike sounds excessive but it is what it is. Too bad the kicker couldn't have saved Moore's bacon.

I think opposing coaches have the option of taking it on the ensuing kickoff or on the try.

This is correct. Moorhead had the choice and made the right call.

Moorhead needs tossed Moore a new suv for saving his job. Or put him in the will at least.
