Essentially the hiring of Matt Luke as the football head coach was like giving Ole Miss the death penalty. With Luke as HC, the Rebels will never be more than a mediocre team. Luke has proven to be an inferior coach who was full of excuses why his unit could not succeed. He was forced onto two coaching staffs and has not been approached by another school, except schools where David Cutcliffe is a coach, for a coaching job. His family's political connections are the only thing that secures his job at Ole Miss. These connections make him untouchable. The hiring of Matt Luke has resulted in inferior teams with a major drop of in attendance and fan support. These actions are almost equivalent to the death penalty.

It's also a decision that has helped to divide the Ole Miss Family and not unite in the way a coaching hire should...

Exactly who else wanted the job? (asking for a friend)

Bill Clarke
Dave Doeren
Les Miles
These three all wanted the job for sure and would have been a much better choice than Luke.
Z, I like you but that old line of nobody wanted a $3-4 million per year job is B.S. and anyone that thinks that is simply not being logical.

Les Miles drove to Oxford, asked for the job, and wanted an interview. Dave Doren was Bjerk's choice, but Fluke has already circled the wagons. Bill Clarke expressed interest but was not considered. When the job was publically posted, which is has to be according to law, Fluke was livid, called his Daddy, and they started circling the wagon. He started giving program access to the right people and started an big political campaign to position himself for the job. Bjerk's hands were tied and Fluke was forced into the HC position. Anyone who thinks Fluke will become a successful, consistently winning head coach at Ole Miss is doing a lot of wishing and hoping. Maybe unicorns can fly??!??!!!

I thought Miles had expressed big interest but those in charge had some kind of apprehension. Ranch told me that RR turned down the opportunity to interview (I think I have that right) Not sure either that we were north of 3 mil then as we were going into NCAA hell, losing schollies etc. We were and still are a bio=hazardaous dump. I'm nether for nor against Luke. I am for OM. I am for winning. If we were winning, would Luke still be an issue? America is booming and you can't turn on the news without the hating. We are losing and I get that, but WE ARE NOT GETTING RID OF LUKE THIS YEAR. I'm sick of hearing about it. It's fridggin CNN around here abut it. Maybe after next not this! I'm not pulling against OM to get Luke fired. Not happening.

Luke is a loser. He has always been a loser. There is nothing, in his entire history of being a coach, that would warrant him being a HC. We have seen him get his ass handed to him in recruiting this very state. We have seen him make dumb call after dumb call during games. If you like winning, then you'd want Luke gone.

Not a big donor here so I have to live with what we have till the powers that be who call the shots. I have to wait till their fed up. I don't see him being hired away so they'll just have to get a bely full.
