Carter Quote about Luke

Quote:

"I think our football program is headed in a great direction," Carter said. "I'm so excited about coach Luke. He's our coach."

- Keith Carter from Clarion Ledger article

Now if spiraling downward is a great direction, then the Ole Miss football program is headed in a great direction.

Here is an example of something spiraling downward.

Re: Carter Quote about Luke

Yeah, give KC a break here. You don't come in and start chopping heads. I have no problem with Luke if he were winning. Soon as he does, we'll all be 'atta boying his ass off". I don't think the never Lukers get it it. We don't have a viable coach in site. Do you understand that? KC has to give Luke a chance on his watch to mae or break it so please , go get yourself a nice cold drink and report some team news not the hand wrenching BS like is reported on CNN. We HAVE to let Luke have a shot on KC's watch, then the onus is on him.

What a bunch of nonsense.
1. A new boss can absolutely come in and start chopping heads that need to be chopped.  Sometimes it might take a while to figure out which heads need to be chopped.  But carter has been interim so he should know that Luke needs a good head chopping.

2.  Nobody has a problem with Luke if he were winning.  The problem is that he hasn’t been a winner anywhere he has been as an Oline coach (ole miss under O, Tenn and Duke under Cut, ole miss under freeze).  And he sure as heck hasn’t been a winner as a head coach.  The problem with Luke is that anybody with sense knew what we were going to look like with him as our HC and here we are.  Anybody with sense knows what we’re are going to look like with like as our coach going forward.  If he couldn’t win this year with our schedule and the two coordinators we have, he will never win.  And people can say that probation and lack of talent have affected him.  BS.  We have been thin but we have had enough talent that freeze left to win 6 games a year at least.

3. Carter needs to give Luke a chance on his watch?  That makes absolutely no sense, especially since Carter has been interim and around Ole Miss for even longer.

I’m going to give you advice zreb.  Take both of your hands and hold them out.  Hope for luke to win in one of your hands and crap in your other hand to see which one fills up first.

Re: Carter Quote about Luke

The facts stated by olemisscjc are very valid.  There is no reason a new AD cannot come into a program and start making changes.  He is not firing Luke because he was told not to fire Luke.  Carter knows the routine and if he wants to keep his job, then he will do as he is told by the GOBs in charge.  Luke has really never been a successful coach and he is proving it every week as the Ole Miss head coach.  He was not a good OL coach and when he coached the OL, it was often the weakest link on the team.  But he always had an excuse, just as he has an excuse today.  Maybe he got to spend some time around Houston Mutt and learned how to make an excuse for every situation.  There is almost no doubt that Luke has read this book and uses it as a reference.

Re: Carter Quote about Luke

Luke Is a joke, and the joke is on OM. There is not one other SEC school that would ever consider him for their HC not when we hired him and not now. To make a man who was a lousy line coach a millionaire HC because he loves OM is beyond ridiculous.

Re: Carter Quote about Luke

The only Power 5 job Luke could probably get after Ole Miss, if he is ever fired or leaves, would be with Cutcliffe.  Right now most realistic fans are having doubts that Luke will ever leave.  He is simply being propped up by a group of politically connected people.

Re: Carter Quote about Luke

If the truth was known , Carter was probably told to retain him.

Re: Carter Quote about Luke

I’m guessing I’ve confused zreb with another poster. Is this the same poster that use to live on the free board of Rivals ten plus years ago? I always thought zreb was that cranky old poster that I use to enjoy reading. I’m guessing that I’ve confused him with someone else or am not remembering his posts from that Rivals board well. He certainly seems to be supportive of the status quo on this board.
