The CL's MSU guy says we are seriously considering Frank Wilson for our new Head Coach. Have any of you heard these rumors?

GOOD. We need a hire as soon as the Egg Bowl finishes.

Bullpup told me today that OM will hire Frank Wilson to soften the NCAA blow like they did with Crooms.I think Wilson would be a Jim Dandy hire .

Yep...I threw that possibility/likelihood out several months ago..... The NCAA, NFL, ESPN are all on the PC train and nothing would melt the butter of the NCAA better than for them to 'place' a PC hire in the home of the "Rebels".....
That being said....he would probably do a good job recruiting. He certainly knows Cajun land and south Ms....
As a HC.....I'm not convinced......another junior college coach.....UTSA.....yeah that sounds like the big time....bout like Sam Houston State.....or Arkie State.....

I like the idea. But can he actually coach?

Ole Miss can do better than Wilson as head coach. A big problem is that no one better, even with a big salary, wants the Ole Miss job. He is 9-7 as a head coach and lost to New Mexico in a bowl last year. If Wilson were hired, he might be at Ole Miss for less than five years. Ole Miss needs to hire a quality, experienced, winning, Power 5 type coach and not let the NCAA or some political group dictate hiring policy to the University.

Well.....then there is the administration.....the same one that decided on exemplary cooperation, the stick ban, a bear and a damn fish mascot to represent a 'rebel'.....Hmmmmmm why do I suspect they will bend over backwards to please the PC crowd..?

Hiring an established power 5 coach may be easier said than done -- look at some of the recent hires in the SEC.
Florida hired McElwain, Colorado State's coach.
Georgia hired Kirby Smart, a Defensive Coordinator
Tennessee hired Butch Jones, then Cincinatti's HC
Vandy hired Mason, who was a Defensive Coordinator
Kentucky hired Stoops, also a Defensive Coordinator
The last "big name" hire was Arkansas's hire of Bielema from Wisconsin and that one hasn't panned out very well.
i think the perception once was that an SEC program just cherry pick coaches from other conferences, and that just hasn't been the case....and it may well be the same in Ole Miss' case during this coaching search.
