Bob Stoops next FSU coach?

So, Taggert was sucking at FSU and they fired him before the season was over. Latest rumor is that they are working out a deal to hire Bob Stoops now.

Stoops was hired as the XFL Dallas's team HC, so it'll be interesting to see how FSU handles that.

Meanwhile, we're still stuck with Luke....

FSU firing Taggart before the season ends and then sets their sights on a big name is what big programs who want to win do.  Ole Miss would most likely never do this and continue to make excuses for their short comings.  Realistic Ole Miss fans must face the fact that Ole Miss does not really care about athletics.  They just want to have the Grove, be social, and make the scene.  Who really cares about winning?  Whining to them is more fun.

Re: Bob Stoops next FSU coach?

it all boils down to this guys.  Do you trust our chancellor and "to be named at some point in the future" AD to hire anyone?  Do you?  I don't.  There is nothing today that tells me that even if Boyce calls a press conference to announce Luke will not be the coach next year and that a national search is underway, that our administration is coordinated and competent enough to make a decision that puts us in better position.

I don't see it.  I am always an optimist and can be swayed to give you credit when it is earned.  But today, Boyce is not leading this university.  if he was, there would be talk from people who pay attention that there is movement happening.  But a month later, there is nothing being spread even via rumor.  Because Mississippi politics is inherently bad with keeping a tight lip.  the moment information is being passed, it rolls downhill fast because people love to show how in the know they are...

So the fact we don't know crap tells me crap aint happening. I am not a Neal McCready fan, but he nailed it in their podcast today.  That within the next 2 weeks, if the administration does not have a full throated declaration of the direction of the program, it will do nothing but compound the apathy.

So all the other programs and what they are doing is immaterial to Ole Miss because we know what we have right now with Luke.  I have nothing that tells me the ability of our administration will do anything better.

FSU apparently had private funding (boosters) come forward with the money for the buyout so it was not a hard decision. I don't see that happening at Ole Miss. Yes, from our perspective it would seem that money would be saved by replacing Luke even with the buyout because attendance will continue to fall along with the program but it's still hard to justify spending money they don't have to start all over and spend more on the next staff.

I don't think the issue is money. The University is losing money right now by keeping Luke - ticket sales are down, donations are down, and next year would be even worse if Luke returns. There's no energy or excitement in this program. Can you imagine if Luke's sorry ass comes back for another season? "Abysmal" is the only word that comes to mind that would describe the outlook of the program.

Bottom line - you lose more money by keeping Luke than by firing him.
