I want first 3 years freeze, not the last 2 years freeze. His first 3-4 years, you pretty much saw improvement each week and you just felt we were heading in the right direction. The last few years, in hindsight, I saw some warning signs specifically in his demeanor where he just thought he was untouchable. But then you could tell the ncaa issues where wearing on him and I think that is what also opened the door to him failing into the moral traps he got wrapped up in

Had he stayed true, kept working hard and kept his mouth shut about the ncaa issues, we would have already been in a different situation right now. But he scared the program and the ncaa got the multiple pounds of flesh.

Anyway, freeze will inch his way back up the ladder and if he keeps winning, he will get his chance. It just won’t be in the sec

See, what you are missing is that the untouchable look was what makes great coaches, kind of like Saban has that same untouchable look. I want Freeze back with a real AD that does his damn job instead of constantly schmoozing and hobnobbing and without the NCAA garbage hanging over his head. Yes, I would take Freeze back in an instant and anyone that wouldn't simply doesn't want to win.

As for defense recruits, you can put a lot of blame on Mullen for having guys committed to him saying publicly that they were committed to us, leaving a void on signing day when they flipped to MSU and Alabama.

An untouchable look is a good thing except when paired with stupidity. Freeze had both. And his defense in 2017 was pathetic and getting worse. He hired a terrible DC to cap it off. I saw no indication he was going to turn that around. The winning was over - he peaked too early.

You are right MSU did pull some shenanigans with recruits by Freeze missed on tons of other recruits he "thought he had" until signing day to Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama, etc. The backup plan was to sign 1,000+ ranked players instead. That won't cut it.

Bjork would have been fine without the NCAA issues. Those came down just months after he arrived so he was never really out from under them before he left. He also had an overbearing, stupid chancellor who forced some hires.

The real issue is that Ole Miss cannot seem to put together a strong, stable set of leaders at the same time. The void is deafening now. The Boyce fiasco and complete lack of leadership this past month says we should get used to where we are - screwed.

I intend to give Boyce his chance rather than close the case. To each his own I suppose.

I am as about as imperfect of a person as they come.  So I give everyone the grace and second chances that I hope to get when I am trying to do good.  The issue with boyce is that after over a year of searching and then a shady appointment, people are starving for action.  he has been the AD for about a month and frankly, can anyone tell?  after the ncaa screwed us and our team continues to struggle, people want to see some sort of measurable result.  sure we are getting closer in our loses, but the level of abuse we have taken as a program, people want vengeance.  Vengeance comes in the form of success.  Every loss is more salt on the wound.

the fear is that as the AD search continues to perceptibly bumble along, all people are looking for is something that tells them that decisions are being made, leadership is being applied and progress is in the works.   Is 1 month long enough to get something tangible to point to?  i doubt it, but you would think there could be some talk of plans.

When england was being attacked from all sides, did churchill retreat to his bunker and insulate himself?  no, he connected with the people, provided leadership and managed to keep people striving for victory.  At some point, we need our leadership to do the same thing.  we have been attacked for over half a decade and it just seems that leadership is waiting for all the fires to die down first before they decide to rebuild..

Re: Our brain trust needs to figure a way

No offense but when was an appointment NOT done with back door dealing? The skids are greased and we never have a clue. The powers set this up so that Boyce could do this so it's kosher by me. Now, lets let the record not the talking heads so abundant in Oxford these days, speak, then decide. We may have gotten lucky.

Re: Our brain trust needs to figure a way

For some, Freeze is like that old girl friend with whom you had a bad break up but continues to lives rent free in your head 24/7. Here's a married man and father of young daughters who was trolling for prostitutes while on official recruiting trips for Ole Miss. Personal forgiveness for that behavior is one thing. Each of us can decide for ourselves about that. The issue is how that behavior would impact Freeze at Ole Miss were he to be head coach here again. If I'm a mother or father of a 17 or 18 year-old son, do I want to entrust his college football career to man who was was trolling for prostitutes on the company dime? You can rest assured that coaches of opposing schools won't be too subtle in using this against Freeze on the recruiting trail. I have no animosity against Hugh Freeze and hope he can get his coaching career back on track. I just don't think it's best for him or Ole Miss that he return here.

Re: Our brain trust needs to figure a way

Freeze's arrogance with the NCAA caused a lot of the problems to begin with.  I think he is still radioactive with the NCAA as far as we are concerned.  He's not coming back in the near future.  Maybe 10 years from now it will be different.

Re: Our brain trust needs to figure a way

Depends on how consistent he is with liberty and how bad a team needs a good coach.  Freeze may end up in the pac or big, however, his southern charm may not work over in the pac, but his offense would.  He will land somewhere in the next year or so and after 2-3 years, he will make a jump again.

Unless he just flames out, he will get a big job somewhere in the next 5 years I think.

Re: Our brain trust needs to figure a way

Freeze is a champion at a school dedicated to winning.  We could be so lucky to bring him back as head coach.  The only people who wouldnt want him back are Bama fans and ole miss fans who think our admin has always had the fans best interest at heart.

Re: Our brain trust needs to figure a way

I certainly understand and can appreciate the other side of the Freeze argument. I dk where it all jumped the tracks for him, maybe coming from a HS  teacher/coach's income to 7 figures ( money changes some people)and the adulation of fans and kids or exactly what but I bet he wishes he had to do over again. From being embraced to being rejected has to be an emotional fall. OM will never get a proven big time coach however if we get a coach who becomes one, I think we'll do a better job $$$$ of keeping him. In the meantime, muddle onward!
