Re: Ed Orgeron reflects on the infamous 4th and 1 call.

I've never understood why so many Rebel fans are sentimental towards Ed when he obviously hates Ole Miss.  I'm glad he's happy where he's at, but Ole Miss gave him his first shot at being a head coach, he could at least be a little magnanimous after all these years.

Re: Ed Orgeron reflects on the infamous 4th and 1 call.

I thought his firing was too soon. He never had a QB worth a darn and had one teed up for the next season. I would take Coach O over Nutt any day.

Agreed. Snead was the missing piece. And Orgeron has every reason to hate Ole Miss with how he was treated the day he set foot on campus. Fans wanted him to fail just because they didn't like him. The administration put up road blocks for him during recruiting. And the media constantly slammed him. The guy did nothing but work his ass off and poured his heart into the program, only to be stabbed in the back by virtually everyone.

Re: Ed Orgeron reflects on the infamous 4th and 1 call.

USC did him as wrong as anyone IMHO, but he never bad-mouths them that I know of.  Ed was a great recruiter and was very passionate, but he was not a good game day coach.  I do think he's grown in that area into much better HC material, but he wasn't ready for the big chair in 2005.
Anyways, he's the HC at LSU now, so hating Ole Miss is part of his job.  LOL

Re: Ed Orgeron reflects on the infamous 4th and 1 call.

Anyone who thinks Orgeron hasn't played nice to Ole Miss in the media has lost their damn minds.  Some of the shit he endured while at Ole Miss borders on criminal.  I mean when your own people turn on you it's bad yet Orgeron has never wavered.  He's always taken the high road.  He's admitted he made mistakes and never, not once, trashed Ole Miss publicly when he has every reason to.
USC may have not done him right in not hiring him but they never tried to sabotage or set him up to fail either.  Never forced coaching hires on him.  Never refused to support him.  I could go on and on.  Thankfully we have a new admin in place that understands what a staff needs to be successful and Orgeron has found his home.  Happy for him.  He deserves it and has earned it.  He has more class than the overwhelming majority of our "fans"  looking down their nose at him from the grove.

It's ok to disagree without getting personal.  Discussion boards are for discussion, I was trying to have one.  It's just my opinion, no big deal, I'm sure my post won't cost Ed any sleep.
I agree that he was fired too soon and that the Ole Miss admin at the time was a nightmare.  Ed quotes from the story linked above, in his own words:

“I don't have many memories of that place (Ole Miss) that I want to remember,”
“I thank the good Lord every day,” (that he made the wrong call that likely got him fired from Ole Miss.)

Justified?  Maybe so.  High road? Maybe not.  One way or the other, it's been a decade, so who really cares?  I was just making an observation, I don't hate Ed, I just don't lionize him the way some do. But if they love him, that's ok by me, I just don't understand it is all I was saying.

Anyways, I'm out of this friendly discussion, if anyone needs me I'll be looking for my @#$% mind.

I was surprised by his comment.

If you want a whipping boy, take "Back To Back Cotton Bowls".  He rode Ed's recruits, including Jevan, into the ground.  He was the worst we've had recently.

It was not intended to be personal but my opinion of what I think of those who think what Ed said in a room full of LSU media was slanderous towards Ole Miss.  Part of a discussion is giving one's opinions and I don't expect anyone to like it.  It's mine and I own it.  If you don't like it that's cool.  No harm no foul.
Lionizing?  Lol.  How about giving credit for the foundation of players he established that Nutt rode into the ground and teaching Freeze how to recruit at the college level that directly led to our recent run of success that was arguably meteoric?  No one expects you to like the guy.  He had plenty of faults and has admitted to them.
What he said was spot on true.  He could have easily sound much worse and much more.  That's answering the question professionally without bashing Ole Miss.  How could he have any fond memories of the place?  He was treated terribly.  To this day it is embarrassing to me to be associated with other Ole Miss folks who were directly responsible for that.  It's bush league and inexcusable and we paid the price for it.  Karma was Nutt in a big big way...
