It wasn’t long ago that Ole Miss was predicted to have a 2018 class in the 50’s or 60’s. It looks like we’’ll end up in the high 20’s. (Under Freeze last year, we came in at 31). Nevertheless, the bitching is running wild about how sorry this class is and blah, blah, blah.
I don’t what the hell some people expected. We’re just coming off a five year NCAA investigation and—depending on the appeal—might still have a bowl ban in 2018. Only after Luke was hired as head coach (not interim) could he and the staff really start selling themselves and the program to recruits. It was a late and ragged start.
I’m not saying this is a great class by any means, and we lost out on some we certainly could have used. But we didn’t lose out to such a degree that we had a 50/60’s class. I think 2019 will be a much better and fairer test of Luke and the staff.

Overall the 2018 Ole Miss recruiting class is much better than I anticipated. Losing the recruting day battles was a let down, especially losing Charles Strong, but gaining a quality QB in Matt Corral in addition to filling positions of need was good. At least in this class there are some defensive recruits instead of 10 WRs and a scat back.
Moving forward, Luke and his staff must develop these players and have higher ranked recruiting classes. There are too many quality coaches in the SEC for any school just to sit back and wait. It will take lots of wins for Luke to unite the Ole Miss fan base. Once again a promising former coach has left the program in shambles and the future of the Ole Miss team is in a questionable and mostly fan doubting status.

I agree. I’m interested to see how Luke puts his own stamp on the program. It’s known that he believes the “culture” of the team had become soft under Freeze. Luke intends to change that culture. Also, Luke was not a fan of Freeze’s micromanaging of assistants and plans to let his coaches do their jobs. Lots of questions to be answered.

I like our 2018 class too. The 2019 Mississippi recruits are going to be ransacked by the rest of the SEC West since we can"t "cheat." We need to be very competitive on the field next year with some good wins to show these recruits we are on the rebound.

Overall, it's a class that fills alot of "needs" for the team. I hate losing Strong - we certainly needed him. But, it is what it is. Time for the coaching staff to whip these 3 star recruits into SEC players.

Have to admit I laugh my ass every time someone mentions Luke changing the culture from the kids being too soft. I mean come on man. We talking about a fat cat who's lived off being lazy and sorry his whole damn career and now we are supposed to believe since he's in charge he's going to toughen up the players?
Sometimes I'm amazed at the Ole Miss fans ability to see a pothole in the road and think that looks like freshly finished pavement!
Fwiw a class that finishes in the top 30 is going to put you in the cellar of the SECW talent wise. Just for some perspective. I also agree this heralded 19 class will be raped and pillaged by lots of out of state schools and that class may not be any better talent wise than this one when it's all said and done. Then what will be Luke's excuse? Coach em up? Get better monday?

One thing that fans can hope for is the fact that whoever signed at Ole Miss wants to be there. Getting rid of the transfers who did not want to be there was actually a positive because it allowed scholarships available for players who want to be at Ole Miss. It did hurt losing some recruiting day battles, but the staff did a good job on the early recruiting signing date. One thing to consider about the 2017 early date is the fact the Ole Miss could concentrate on recruiting and not have to balance between recruiting and bowl practice. If you add having to practice for a bowl along with trying to recruit, you may have different results from the equation.
Losing several players to TAMU hurt the situation. Once again Jimbo Fisher steals players from Ole Miss like he did Cam Newton in a past season. Ole Miss loss the following players to TAMU:

This x1000!!!!
Luke is a pathetic, lazy, fat ass that should have been run out of Oxford years ago. I'm glad we got the kids we got, but there's not going to be any "coaching up" done by Luke. My comment on turning these 3 stars into SEC players was mostly tongue in cheek. A few of them will turn out just fine, but people are just kidding themselves if they believe we'll do any better than a trip to Birmingham or Shreveport with Luke running things.

Oh man, I remember when I first moved to Cordova and decided one day to go driving around in Memphis to get used to the area. Yes, I drove through Orange Mound, and yes, that was the last time I ever did anything that crazy!!!
