What I don't understand is the unbridled GOB enthusiasm for Luke and the total hatred of AK.

I suspect AK isn't one of the GOB country club set.  The same bunch who couldn't abide Coach O....they saw him as beneath their status.....not a blue blood OM guy....ML on the other hand IS of that 'club'.....just like Kinard was following Vaught.....ushered in by insiders because he was one of them....people more concerned with status than with winning.....

The GOB looks down on AK.  For them he is not country club enough.  Also he is not winning, so that does not help any possibilities that he is able to keep his job.

As for Kinard, he was part of the GOB and pushed into his position.  Vaught's choice for his replacement was Bob Tyler, who was part of Vaught's staff from 1968-1970.  In 1970, Kinard's older brother, Frank "Bruiser" Kinard, became the athletic director at Ole Miss and he hired his younger brother, Billy, to be the new Ole Miss Rebels football coach.  Billy lasted 2 full seasons and part of another.  He did well in 1971 with Vaught's left overs, but then flounder in 1972 and 1973.  In 1973 after the third game, Johnny Vaught replaced Kinard.

Perhaps Johnny UMAA can provide us with some real life facts about Bob Tyler since Tyler coached during Johnny UMAA's era.

In 1970, Kinard's older brother, a former Ole Miss and NFL star, Frank "Bruiser" Kinard, became the athletic director at Ole Miss. He hired the younger Kinard to be the new Ole Miss Rebels football coach. After the third contest of the 1973 season, Johnny Vaught replaced Kinard, returning for his second stint as Ole Miss' athletic director and head football coach.[3]
