a report from David Johnson of the Ole Miss Spirit, the Rebels’ annual Grove Bowl spring game has been scheduled for Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. local time. The game, which has not yet been confirmed by Ole Miss athletics, is likely to be aired on the SEC Network.Johnson reports that Ole Miss plans to start spring practice activities near the end of February. It will be Ole Miss’ first spring workouts under the direction of new head coach Matt Luke, who earned the full-time job as Hugh Freeze’s replacement after leading the Rebels to a 6-6 season as the Rebels’ interim coach. As always, the Grove Bowl festivities are always sweeter in Oxford when the Egg Bowl is on campus. Luke endeared himself to the fan base with his genuine love and care for his alma mater, but he may have won their hearts when he brought that trophy home from Starkville with a 31-28 victory over the Bulldogs to cap a stressful season for the Rebels.Ole Miss will open the 2018 regular season against Texas Tech in a neutral-site showdown with Kliff Kingsbury’s Red Raiders in Houston.
your calendars, Ole Miss fans. We have football to watch.According toOffline
It sure would be nice if someone at Ole Miss looked at other sports schedules and planned the Grove Bowl on a weekend when Ole Miss will have a home baseball game. On April 7, the Ole Miss baseball team will be playing Moo U in Starkville. During the 2018 season, the Spring Game could have been on March 30 to coincide with a baseball game with Arkansas, or on April 21 to coincide with a baseball game with Georgia.
If Ole Miss had the Grove Bowl on a weekend with a baseball game, there would be lots of people in town. Instead of one night of lodging, many people would have two nights of lodging. In addition there would be more people to spend money at restaurants, bars, and shops. All of this spending stimulates the economy in Oxford. Maybe someone decided that some revenue could be collected on a non-baseball weekend. Anyway, as a fan you have to scratch your head and wonder why other events are not taken into consideration during Grove Bowl weekend.

They used to do that - I'm not sure why they changed things up. It creates a hell of an atmosphere at Swayze when you have thousands pouring in from the Grove Bowl going to the baseball game. The University is losing money on ticket sales, refreshments, etc... I would go if there was a baseball game to go to afterwards.......

Generally the Spring Football Game is boring and has a low attendance. As you stated, if there were a baseball game after the Grove Bowl, then more fans would come to the Grove Bowl and then go to the baseball game. Maybe this is simply Ole Miss Marketing at its best, or actually at its usual.
