Catfish, How much longer do players have to transfer?
Offline
Technically any player could transfer at any time. They would need to get a release from the school that has their NLI. As for the current situation, I do not know of a time limit, but most of these players who were going to transfer made declarations before the end of 2017. It hurts losing some of these players, but none of them were upperclassmen and most of them were not productive.
Shea will be a loss, but Ta'amu is a very capable QB and Pellerin is also a talented QB. The team seemed to have better chemistry with Ta'amu than with Shea, so hopefully he will not be severely missed. Corral will be on campus in the Spring, so he will be getting valuable practice time. Between Ta'amu, Pellerin, and Corral, Ole Miss should be good at QB and not miss the services of Patterson.
The NCAA will have to determine if these transfers have to sit out a year or are immediately eligible. If the NCAA makes them immediately eligible, the organization opens up a loophole for any player who wants to transfer and not sit out a year. It will be interesting to see what happens in this situation.

I don't know why any of them would be eligible without having to sit out a year per the normal transfer rules. I doubt the NCAA will set a precedent here with a bunch of waivers. That would affect schools well beyond Ole Miss.

Wasn't Julius the speedster at kick returns? I would say he would be missed if so.

Jaylen Jones is the CB that returned kicks. Julius was the opposing cornerback. Solid player.

Unless you consider the fact that most other schools play under a different set of rules than us. This would only set a precedent for the second tier schools like us, not the top tier like BAMA, Ohio State, etc.

I hate that Van left. He is a good one, just needed to get bigger. transferring to FL is not going to help his cause unless he becomes the 1 targeted receiver that tends to emerge under mullet. If he has to sit out, it is going to just be a weird situation. If he is still recovering from his elbow, it just adds to obstacles he will have to overcome by transferring.
I hate that Shea left. But to be honest, I have yet to see a QB come back from a knee injury and is able to perform better than 70%. Shea has talent, he has issues with getting rattled. If he plays loose he does well. When he gets popped in the mouth, he has not bounced back well as of yet. Maybe the transfer gives him a chance to rehab, get bigger and stronger via a medical RS or something. only having 2 years to prove yourself after an injury is just good odds imo. Specially with his history of jumping around in order to ensure his place as "the man".
the rest of the list does not look painful. if you are running to 3rd-4th tier schools for PT, not sure you were dedicated to play in the SEC. Wish them all well but i temper the discouragement of them leaving with the question of, what did we actually lose?
the Shea Vs Jordan qb battle would have been interesting. Jordan played well via all types of teams, environments and circumstances. He did not have the creampuff teams to pad stats with and had a better QBR than Shea. And With Shea hurt late in the season, i just don't see him coming back at anythign better than 70% against solid out of conference opponents. The only issue issue is, even if he had to recoup next year and was willing to be in the back seat or play mop up, he would have been the man in 2019 which may be no different for him now at Michigan. But now we will have to keep jordan healthy while getting a new 2019 QB ready to play/start.
I think a solid recruiting class will help solidify the actual solid players from jumping ship. If they see the cupboard is being restocked they will more than likely stay. We made a big jump in the early signing period, hopefuly next month we will build on that

If the NCAA grants these waivers, then the next school that has some kind of infraction and a player decides to transfer, their lawyer is going to eat the NCAA alive if he does not also get a waiver. It would be opening Pandora's box.

I realize that Sooper. My comment was made with intent of dripping sarcasm and disgust at the way the NCAAtzis have handled this whole thing.
